The Role of the Key Person
The key person builds a good relationship and encourages the sharing of information between home and nursery. They are available to discuss the child's day with parents and give or receive any information that either party feels is of interest or relevance.
The key person welcomes children and families and shares information about the child's day to reassure the parent and child, and acknowledge the feelings of separation and reunion. They also organise activities with their group of children and try where possible to enjoy meal and sleep times together.
The key person ensures each child's development folder is kept updated and readily available to the parents and is themselves available to parents to discuss and show the child's development folder. The key person also acknowledges and respects any religious beliefs, special dietary requirements and general family information, logging information on relevant forms and incorporating these into planning.
Activities
Each child's emotional well-being is addressed through appropriate everyday activities and key persons have strong partnerships with parents, sharing their child's achievements and development.
To support children's independence and individual learning we encourage children to choose which activities they would like to participate in throughout the day, this not only enables them to have more choice but also allows them to spend longer at activities if they so wish in order to complete something or feel satisfied.
We acknowledge that it is essential that children requiring additional support are identified as soon as possible so that this can be provided, while other children who may be more able need identifying so we can provide activities that offer appropriate challenges.
